Growing up my grandma used to make toasted ravioli as an appetizer pretty regularly for Sunday dinners. She would make the ravioli by hand, pan fry them, and serve them with a bowl of warm homemade sauce. I absolutely adored my grandma’s homemade version of this dish, but I must say that my quick and easy gluten free toasted ravioli are nearly as good. I use store bought ravioli and toast them in the air fryer. This version is significantly easier and a touch healthier (thank you, airfryer). All in all it comes together in about 20 minutes with prep time and cook time. It really only requires 4 ingredients!
Gluten Free Ravioli & Breadcrumb Options:
I use gluten free ravioli and gluten free bread crumbs for this recipe. However, for a non-gluten free version of this recipe simply use non-gluten free breadcrumbs and ravioli. I recently discovered Artisola gluten ravioli at Whole Foods and they are delicious in this recipe! The great thing about Artisola though is that they also make wonderful regular ravioli (for all you gluten eating people out there). For the breadcrumbs I used Jeff Nathans Creations seasoned gluten free breadcrumbs. I’ve also used Ian’s gluten free breadcrumbs and Kikkoman gluten free panko.
Air Frying Instructions & Recipe Tips:
I started these gluten free toasted ravioli by whisking together one egg in a small bowl and fill another small bowl with seasoned bread crumbs. Next, I dipped the ravioli in the egg yolk and then rolled them in the breadcrumbs. Side note, my pro tip for air frying is to always pre-heat your air fryer. I find that the outcome of most of my air fryer experiments is better when I preheat for two to three minutes. Place the ravioli in a single layer in the air fryer. I cooked for about three minutes and then flip and cook on the other side for three more minutes. You can tell when the ravioli are done because they’ll puff up and be browned on the outside.
Garnish is key, so I added some freshly grated parmesan on top, added some chopped basil and sprinkled red pepper flakes. I served the ravioli with tomato basil sauce for dipping. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did!
